Vimeo has recently released an update that changes how videos can be viewed based on their privacy and security settings. As part of this update, any video with restricted viewing settings may no longer be accessible unless the viewer is logged into a Vimeo account.
What does this mean for videos on your website?
If a Vimeo video is embedded on your website and its privacy settings require login access, visitors may now see the following error message instead of the video:
“Sorry, this video cannot be played with the current embed configuration.”
How to fix the issue
To restore video playback on your website:
- Log in to your Vimeo account.
- Open the video settings for the affected video.
- Review the Privacy and Embed settings.
- Ensure any viewing restrictions that require Vimeo login are turned off.
- Test the video by opening the direct Vimeo link in an Incognito or Private Browsing window. The video should load without prompting for login.
Once confirmed, send the updated video link over to our development team and we’ll re-embed the video on your website for you.
Why it’s important to manage your videos in a personal Vimeo account
When you manage your videos on Vimeo, you’ll have full control over privacy settings, bandwidth, and storage, which ensures your videos stay online without any disruption. Any questions? Feel free to pop a ticket over to the team who will be more than happy to assist.
